Wedding Programs Peace can design and print your wedding programs if you choose. Examples of previous wedding programs are available in the PeaceEast office. Please provide information a week in advance either to the church office or to the wedding coordinator so the information can be reviewed before the final printing. If you would like to use special paper, please provide it a week in advance. Hobby Lobby and office stores offer elegant wedding cardstock, which we can use in our printers. We are happy to work with you on design, content and formatting. Organist and Music If you would like organ music to add a touch of tradition and elegance to your wedding ceremony, please contact the Music Director as soon as possible. The phone number is located on the inside front cover of this booklet. The Music Director can arrange for our church organist to play for your service and help select music from a wide variety of resources. The church organist should be your first option out of courtesy to the organist’s position in the church. If the church organist is not available, the Music Director will arrange for another organist. Any outside organist will need to be approved by the Music Director. The Music Director and the organist will be glad to help you select music that is appropriate to the Christian worship setting. Instrumental and vocal music is not entertainment or background music; it is praise music to God. Congregational hymns may be used if desired. Vocal or instrumental solos should reinforce the spiritual significance of the wedding service. Our Music Director will make instrumental and vocal arrangements. The final approval of all music at the wedding rests with the pastor and the Music Director. Outside Clergy When the bride or groom wishes to invite another member of the clergy to participate in the service, the Pastor from Peace must be consulted first. If it is mutually agreed upon, the Pastor from Peace will extend an invitation to the guest pastor.
The Marriage Service
Marriage is a service of worship in which the invited guests are
not spectators, but participants in the service. They are not there
simply to watch, but to witness and support as a congregation of
God’s people. The Pastor will discuss with you the nature and
form of the marriage service. You can find the traditional service
on page 202 of the Lutheran Book of Worship. It is a good reference
for you and the Pastor as you plan your special worship service.
Holy Communion
You may want to consider celebrating Holy Communion during
your wedding ceremony. The liturgy of Holy Communion
emphasizes several important themes: the centrality of Christ in
your relationship; the love of God; unity; and forgiveness. The
wedding couple can play a special part during Holy Communion.
Please notify the wedding coordinator at least one week in
advance to ensure time to prepare Holy Communion.
Scripture
Readings from Scripture are an important part of every Christian
wedding. Your selection is unlimited; however, the following are
readings that many couples have found meaningful. We suggest
you read each of these together (perhaps as a daily devotional)
and pick those which are most meaningful for you. It is
traditional to have at least two readings:
