The Marriage Service
Marriage is a service of worship in which the invited guests are
not spectators, but participants in the service. They are not there
simply to watch, but to witness and support as a congregation of
Gods people. The Pastor will discuss with you the nature and
form of the marriage service. You can find the traditional service
on page 202 of the Lutheran Book of Worship. It is a good reference
for you and the Pastor as you plan your special worship service.
Holy Communion
You may want to consider celebrating Holy Communion during
your wedding ceremony. The liturgy of Holy Communion
emphasizes several important themes: the centrality of Christ in
your relationship; the love of God; unity; and forgiveness. The
wedding couple can play a special part during Holy Communion.
Please notify the wedding coordinator at least one week in
advance to ensure time to prepare Holy Communion.
Scripture
Readings from Scripture are an important part of every Christian
wedding. Your selection is unlimited; however, the following are
readings that many couples have found meaningful. We suggest
you read each of these together (perhaps as a daily devotional)
and pick those which are most meaningful for you. It is
traditional to have at least two readings:
