Communion Assistants

Position: Communion Assistant (CA)

Ministry Area: Vibrant Vital Worship

Goal of Position: Assist with worship service

Responsible To: Coordinator, Worship Planning Team, Pastors

Ministry Description: Assist with serving wafer (traditional)/bread (contemporary) or wine, holding tray or chalice.

Words for Communion: (If serving the Wafer/Bread) “Body of Christ, broken for you.” (If serving the Wine/Grape Juice) “Blood of Christ, shed for you.” (Blessing of the Children) - place the palm of your right hand on their head or shoulder and say “Jesus loves you.”

Length of Commitment: Quarterly Schedule

Time Required: Assist at service time on schedule – this may be while you worship

Training Provided: Yes – Contact the church office with questions

Qualifications/Special Skills: Dependable, understand the importance of worship.

Before the Service Begins: Decide who will serve wafer/bread or wine. Determine who will serve any guests that cannot reach the altar and who will serve the organist/pianist.

During the Service: Approach the altar when the presiding pastor looks to the congregation for his assistants – this is after the consecration of the wafer/bread or wine. Serve the pastor communion, then he will serve you before serving the congregation. Serve the pianist/organist communion after the congregation.

Required Attire: Robes are worn for the 8:30 am service only. They can be found in the Music Suite, the choir will help you “robe up.”

Whenever a 4th communion assistant is needed the Worship Assistant
will serve communion.
